2008 SUMMER PROGRAM
Summer Opportunities Since 1980

  • GENERAL INFORMATION:
    Redeemer Baptist Elementary School offers a safe and fun-filled Summer Program. This summer we are offering a Thematic Unit Summer Program. The morning will be filled with academic enrichment in Language Arts, Math, and Hands-on Science. Additional development activities will include Water Play, Sports, Arts and Crafts, Cooking, Drama, and preparation for a musical production that will culminate with an evening performance for parents on August 1st. Weekly field trips will be taken to points of interest throughout Southern California. The last week of Summer Camp will have a Visual Arts emphasis during the afternoon.



    WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
    Pre-Kindergarten
    Children who will be entering Kindergarten in the Fall of 2008 are eligible to participate in this program. This is an ideal way to prepare them for their entry into school. The core Pre-Kindergarten program will be from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Participants in this program are also eligible to participate in the afternoon program. Children would have time to have lunch and rest for a short time between the morning and afternoon programs.

    Kindergarten through 6th grade
    Children enrolled in Kindergarten through 6th grade are eligible to participate in this program.



    ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT:
    Language Arts
    Pre-Kindergarten through 2nd grade:
    • Promote reading readiness and foster phonemic awareness by learning age-appropriate poetry and nursery rhymes.
    • Develop reading skills through the incorporation of phonics.
    • Create a love of reading by exploring children’s stories through student dramatization, video production, and child-authored stories.
    • Encourage writing by offering practical opportunities to write in journals.

    3rd through 6th grades - Enhance Language Arts skills through:
    • Writing projects
    • Journals
    • Dramatization
    • Sustained silent reading
    • Student-authored books
    • Peer editing

    Math

    Pre-Kindergarten through 2nd grade:
    • Develop mathematical thinking skills through the use of manipulatives.
    • Provide opportunities for number recognition, exploration and review of number combinations, estimation, and telling time.
    • Provide opportunity to use money in a play store setting.

    3rd through 6th grades - Enhance learned mathematical skills through instruction, drill, and practice:
    • Addition and subtraction
    • Multiplication and division
    • Decimals, percents, and fractions
    • Word problems

    Fundamentals of Sports
    Campers will engage in various athletic fundamentals in:
    • Basketball
    • Soccer
    • Football, etc.

    Hands-on Science
    Discover the world through scientific experimentation. Students will explore the world of science with hands-on activities and experiments that will develop their skills of:
    • Observation
    • Estimation
    • Measurement
    • Development of hypotheses

    Recreational Activities
    Each day, campers will enjoy various supervised games and activities including water play.

    Arts and Crafts
    Thematic art projects will be a part of each afternoon. The following are a sampling of the mediums to be used:
    • Tempera Paints
    • Watercolor
    • Crayons
    • Oil pastels (chalk)
    • Clay

    Cooking
    In cooperative learning groups, campers will discover how to cook and serve fun and tasty foods, enhancing measuring skills and the ability to follow directions.

    Performing Arts
    Campers will be given the opportunity to be involved in a performing arts program. This part of the summer program enhances and gives opportunities for:
    • Confidence building
    • Vocal and drama performance
    • Solo performance
    • Dance and choreography
    • Costuming
    • Set design

    Summer Camp 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM
    Additional hours listed are designated as daycare

    EACH APPLICATION INCLUDES A $50.00 NON REFUNDABLE REGISTRATION FEE

    A 4-WEEK MINIMUM IS REQUIRED (You May Choose Any 4-Weeks Offered)

    $360.00 ($90.00/week) 4-Week Minimum due prior to 6/23 (Non-Refundable).

    $540.00 ($135.00/week) 4-Week Minimum due prior to 6/23 (Non-Refundable)

    7:00 AM to 6:00 PM

    SPECIAL OFFER FOR SUMMER CAMPERS
    Redeemer Elementary is offering a special opportunity for “Summer Campers” who need daycare during the weeks of August 11th through August 27th. (There will be no daycare offered August 28th to September 2nd). These are the weeks following Summer Camp, before the 2008-09 school year begins. These weeks of daycare will be offered to Summer Camp participants for $90.00 per week or $19.00 per day for drop-ins.
